"Smile" is a song based on an instrumental theme used in the soundtrack for the 1936Charlie Chaplin movie Modern Times. Chaplin composed the music, John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons added the lyrics and title in 1954 for Nat King Cole's hit. Since then it's become an American standard with countless recordings. This chord melody version is played with a track and makes an easy addition to your set list. The scale like motion of the melody offers a lesson in harmonization. The song being only 16 bars is played through twice in the key of F in a swing feel and then switches to a Bossa Nova feel and modulates to the key of G. 24 minute video demonstrated slowly by measure then rehearsed by sections.
